Trip Description
Rara Tour, a natural wonder in the isolated regions of Nepal can only be the Rara tour around the beautiful Rara Lake. With its deep turquoise blue waters, this lake is utterly amazing to observe.
The one-way drive to 13 hrs long 605 km far, hence an early start (06:00) is advisable. After exiting Kathmandu at the Nagdhunga checkpoint, the route follows the Prithvi Highway to Narayanghat then follow the EastWest Highway to reach Surkhet and we stay there. In the next day after breakfast, we again start to drive for 7-8 hours to reach Kalikot, 150 km from Surkhet. Again we spend that day there. And in the very next day after having breakfast start to drive for 4 hours and reached Talcha airport where we park our jeep. After that, it will take the 30-minute walk to reach the lake.
There is plenty to see and experience on the drive; beautiful lush-green rolling hills on the other side of the river, river valleys and serpentine sculpted canyon formed by Trishuli and Karnali rivers, scattered villages and pockets of highway towns, and local produce, from vegetables to fruits to fresh fish, are sold by locals, small tea houses and eateries.
Once you reach Rara, you might want to rest for the day following the long drive. Overnighting at the Lake provides you with a great possibility to walk around the beaches and observe the moon lit up the lake at night. After a good rest, early morning would be a great time to walk around, enjoy boating, have pictures and any other available optional tour like hike around etc yourself.
Which vehicle is better for Rara Tour
Highways in Nepal aren’t always top-notch so a comfortable ride is a must. We suggest a jeep for this Rara tour because up to Nepalgunj the highway is awesome but you can’t take other vehicles than the jeep on the which leads you to the Rara Lake.
